Bringing a new baby into the world is magical—but let’s be real, postpartum recovery is no walk in the park. From sleepless nights to hormone shifts and physical recovery, new moms are thrown into one of the biggest transitions of their lives. That’s why having a solid postpartum survival kit is absolutely essential.
Whether you're deep in the fourth trimester or prepping ahead, this guide is packed with real recommendations from real moms who’ve been through it—hi, that’s us, The Momologue girls, Kennedy and Sierra. We’re sharing the most useful postpartum products and tips that got us through—from breastfeeding must-haves to the unsung heroes of bathroom recovery. Trust us: it takes a village, and we're here to be a part of yours.
1. Electrolytes: Keep Hydrated
One of the simplest but most crucial postpartum essentials? Electrolytes. Breastfeeding moms especially know the deep, sudden thirst that can hit out of nowhere. Staying hydrated helps with milk production and overall energy levels, and sometimes plain water just doesn’t cut it.
Sierra loved the LMNT Electrolyte Packets and also discovered a more affordable option from Just Ingredients. Their version is stevia-sweetened (no sugar!) and costs less than $1 per serving. A go-to for Kennedy, even during pregnancy and birth, was Designs for Health Electrolyte Synergy Powder.
Bonus tip: Keep a large water bottle (think 30+ oz like a Stanley cup) within arm’s reach at all times. Hydration is healing!
2. Supplements: To Support Recovery
Your body is depleted after birth and giving nutrients to your baby, especially if you're breastfeeding/pumping. That’s why supplements are a must. Keep taking your prenatal vitamins (we used Ritual), and consider adding these:
These may not be cheap, but postpartum is a short(er) season—and one worth investing in. Kennedy noted she felt more energized and stable during the early weeks because of her supplement routine. Always make sure to do your research and/or consult your health provider before adding in new supplements to your diet! We're just moms, not medical professionals.
3. Snacks That Are Fast and Filling
These can help boost your energy, replenish nutrition depletion and carry you over to your next full meal, so stocking up on nourishing postpartum snacks is essential.
Some of our favorites are:
Lactation Energy Bites: nourishing and packed with protein, healthy fats, and milk-boosting ingredients.
Lactation cookies: they're soft, chewy, and packed with milk-boosting ingredients like oats, flaxseed, and brewer's yeast.
Bone broth: easy to sip or add to soups; rich in protein, collagen, nutrients and easy to digest.
4. Comfy Clothing: Your New Best Friend (after us, of course)
You’ll want to live in soft, stretchy, forgiving clothes. Kindred Bravely joggers and pajama sets were lifesavers for us—we wore them through pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond.
A surprise Amazon favorite? A super soft button-down nightgown that was affordable, breathable, and stylish enough to not feel like a total mess. Sierra bought it in three colors and loved how light and ideal for the summer heat. It looks like Kindred Bravely quality but at a fraction of the price.
You'll thank us later:
Kindred Bravely joggers and pajama sets
Bonus tip: Go up a size in postpartum undies for ultimate comfort!
5. Breastfeeding Essentials
If you're planning to nurse, having the right gear makes a huge difference:
Haakaa Ladybug Milk Collector: Worn on the non-nursing side to catch let-down; easy to clean and use, and a great way to start building a backup milk supply.
Legendairy Milk Sunflower Lecithin: Prevents clogged ducts and comes highly recommended by lactation consultants.
Lactation massager: We loved the Frida Mom 2-in-1, with heat and vibration; helps with milk flow, especially when used during nursing. It’s pocket-sized, rechargeable, and contoured to fit comfortably.
Lanolin or Earth Mama nipple butter: Keep those nips hydrated and help soothe the wear and tear they'll get from breastfeeding/pumping!
Lanolin can also be used as a backup lip balm, diaper ointment, or skin protectant! It's just great for keeping skin moisturized and protected.
Reusable nursing pads: They come in a cute little bag and are machine washable.
Note: The outlines of Kindred Bravely pads can show through some bras/shirts, so you may want to look into contoured options to have as a backup.
Nursing bras: The crossover ones are easiest for comfort and accessibility. Pumping bras require clips and structure.
6. Bathroom Recovery Essentials
Let’s talk about the not-so-glamorous but totally necessary part of postpartum: healing "down there."
Here’s what to stock in your postpartum bathroom basket:
Peri bottle: Frida Mom's was our go-to; the angled spout and collapsible design make it easy to use and portable. Just don’t toss it in a sanitizing bin—Kennedy melted hers by accident!
TUCKS pads: Layer over your pad for cooling and inflammation relief.
Perineal spray: Earth Mama's herbal blend is gentle, soothing and effective. Plus, it has an upside-down sprayer!
Disposable underwear and/or large pads: An absolute MUST as you get through the bleeding phase.
Sitz bath salts: Not something you need to do every time you do #1, but you should be taking sitz baths fairly often because they do wonders for recovery! They help reduce inflammation, prevent infection, promote healing and blood circulation, and soothe soreness.
Keep everything in a basket within arm’s reach. You’ll have a whole “routine” every time you pee, so make it easy on yourself.
7. Bowel Movements & Hemorrhoids (Yep, We’re Going There)
We know, it can be a little terrifying going #2 after you just pushed out a full blown baby, so make it a little easier on yourself for the event by prepping yourself with:
Prune juice or dried prunes: The fiber and sorbitol help ease the experience.
While we're not dieticians, we do believe in adjusting your diet to include more hydration and fiber to really set yourself up for success. In the absolute worst-case scenario, there are stool supplements you can take.
Hemorrhoid cream: Add this to your basket even if you don’t think you’ll need it. There's a chance you might, especially since the risk increases with postpartum.
8. Nighttime & Emotional Support
You’ll be up a lot. A Himalayan salt lamp gives off a soft red glow that’s easier on your eyes at night and promotes better sleep and mood while purifying the air.
Queue up some comforting shows or audiobooks (Gilmore Girls and Arcane were our go-to's) to help you feel like your old self again. Having some escapism can provide emotional support and a nice reset during long days and nights.
Look into local or online mom groups—they’re a great place to ask questions, get second opinions or vent when you need to talk to someone other than family. Facebook typically is a great place to start.
9. Our Holy Grail Items
Sierra's Holy Grail: Silverettes
Our top recommendation. Heals, protects, and just works. They are handmade in Italy with 925 silver that is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and antibacterial. There’s even a recycling program where you can turn them into a pendant after you’re done!
Kennedy's Holy Grail: DIY Padsicles
Easy to make, unbelievably relieving. Helps with swelling, soreness, and speeds up healing.
10. Bonus Picks
Underpads: Lay them on your bed to catch leaks and stay clean. Great for postpartum bleeding and milk leaks during night feeds.
Postpartum doula: If you can swing it financially, they can be super helpful. They can offer herbal baths, nourishing meals, do light cleaning, and other postpartum care.
Postpartum recovery is intense—emotionally, physically, mentally. Having a curated list of items to make it smoother can ease stress and give you the support you need. And if you have a holy grail product we didn’t mention, please leave it in the comments for other mamas!
Good luck, Mama. You got this!
Love, Kennedy & Sierra 💙🩷
